I haven’t posted since Matthew’s birthday. It’s been almost two months. I intend to start posting more regularly again as well as become more engaged with my blog in general now that I’m no longer attempting to work a full-time accounting job in the evenings, so first thing’s first – a quick update on the remainder of the summer – just the things that stand out in my mind.

#realtalk #sh!tstorm
Mark’s been working late the last couple of nights, so I’ve had my summer mommy’s helper, Sher, stay late to help with late afternoon activities/dinner/bath/bedtime. After tonight I’m a bit worried about how she might perceive me. Continue reading
Mother nature is cruel
We don’t give Joel much screen time; however, on Super Bowl Sunday we made an exception and turned on the television. Prior to the Super Bowl we caught part of the Puppy Bowl, or I guess a story about the origins of it (on Animal Planet?), which was wonderful, because Joel LOVES puppies. So it was a great opportunity for us as a family to zone out together in front of the TV, and Mark and I could still feel good about ourselves, because we reasoned that Joel was getting extra time with his favorite animal, at least virtually. Never lie to an anxious, tech-savvy homeowner
So this was a weird sort of f#ckory we recently experienced and is a story a bit on the lighter side so I figured I’d share it. So we recently visited Mark’s parents in Iowa, and, like the day before we were supposed to leave we were like, “OMG WHO IS GOING TO WATCH HOWIE?!” So we immediately thought of everyone we knew in the area and realized we don’t know a ton of people and we trust even fewer, so we thought of ONE person, a high school boy. So Mark went to go find him at 7:00am (Mark’s a go-getter) and knocked on his door. Continue reading
Hair gate, November 2017
So my haircut isn’t exactly what I’d expected, and I’m STILL feeling self-conscious about it, which is why I have yet to post a picture of it. Continue reading
Best book ever. Well, so far…
I wasn’t going to post today… The day started off well, and I got my hair styled, and the color turned out perfectomundo, but I’m still vacillating back and forth on the cut, which is the shortest one I’ve ever had, and I didn’t get the most rave reviews on it from someone important in my life, and it took the wind out of my sails, rendering me super depressed. (It doesn’t take much these days.) Continue reading
When dates snap me back there
So I’m working on some accounting (this has to be the lamest blog intro ever), and I had reason to go back and look at how we, specifically I, accounted for a sale transaction that took place in October 2015, because I’m accounting for a new sale, and I don’t seem to know what the hell I’m looking at, so I need an example… Continue reading
Lunch – do I tell her or not?
Written before lunch today:
At the end of last week, not even ten minutes after my anxiety attack had subsided (as much as my anxiety can subside), I received an email from my boss entitled “various stuff.” In the email my boss told me she’d like to do lunch to discuss some new, exciting software and also “catch up” as “she doesn’t see me very often these days.” Continue reading
Life lately – random happenings
The other day I arrived to work and immediately had to sign some bank paperwork for JVB, so she came into my office to harass me for it, and I was like, “How are you?” And she was like, “Welp, my grandma died last week. She was 97.” And I kind of thought to myself, “At least she was 97,” because sometimes in these situations these sorts of thoughts are among my first ones, which is shitty but also fairly unavoidable after having lost my infant son. But I didn’t say this aloud, because I haven’t lost ALL of my social skills. Yet. So instead, I was like, “I’m so sorry for your loss.” And she was like, “Well… She was 97 but, yeah, it’s sad.” Continue reading
